La Palette du Peintre
At a French auction for stamp collectors there was this lot of vintage French postage stamps (all before WWII) that went for bid. None of the collectors wanted it. The stamps were common and there were a lot of the same stamps. I imagine it was from a stamp collector who bought large lots of stamps, found what he wanted and put the rest in this box.
When I looked in the box, I didn't see stamps but colors. And I thought that there is just enough to make a palette of stamps to use in collage creation.
Well, to everyone's surprise I bought the lot. I know they wondered what is she going to do with these stamps? The next day I went to the Postal Museum in Paris and saw an exhibit on Postal Art. There was an amazing sculpture of red roses all done with stamps. I was right, it was a palette!
Yesterday, with the help of my husband, we sat at the kitchen table with bowls and separated the stamps into six color families and our Vintage Charmings' Palette was born:
Sand Dune: From yellow to tan to brown to rust to the darkest brown. Forest: From the lightest green to medium and kelly greens to the dark green. (Supplies are becoming limited--not available in buckets or tubes.) Wave: From the palest blue to cornflower blue to turquoise to dark blue to navy. Sunset: From Orange to Orange-Red to Red to Deep Red. Lavender Fields: From violet to pink to magenta to purple. (TEMPORARELY OUT OF STOCK--not available in Palettes, tubes or buckets. Dollops are still available)for "Palettes" Kate will add an a surprise 30 stamps from France all different types!!!!!! Granite: From gray to black (TEMPORARELY OUT OF STOCK-- for "Palettes" Kate will add an extra 10 stamps to whatever color group you wish.)
How can you get to play with such wonderful colors?
We have split our colors into four different options:
- A dollop: 10 stamps for $0.60 (no Granite)
- A tube: 50 stamps for $2.00 (no Granite, Forest, or Lavender Fields available at this level)
- A bucket: 100 stamps $3.00 (no Granite, Forest, or Lavender Fields available at this level)
- A palette: 30 stamps of each color family except for Granite and Lavender Fields --you can choose an additional 10 stamps from Sand Dune, Wave or Sunset to take the place of Granite and Kate will give you a new selection in lieu of Lavender Fields--total of 160 stamps $5.00
Please note: All stamps will be randomly picked so you might only get one type of stamp in one color. The more stamps the better chance of getting all the nuances.
